In June of 1993, Larry was touring in Europe when he suffered a heart attack which put him in the hospital and ended his travel plans. When he was released to recuperate he re-assembled his Dutch touring band Thesis and went into a recording studio to run through the set list one more time. Here are the songs that ended up on tape. The songs are well recorded with some great musicians. Comes in full color, beautifully packaged DigiPak packaging.

Many of Larry's albums contain songs intended for more adult ears (think Why Don't You Look Into Jesus, etc.). So, after polling a few fans who have kids and / or grandchildren, we thought it was time to put together a compilation of songs that would be fun for the pre-teen set. So get ready to clap your hand and sing along with your progeny to Shake Your Rattle and Crawl - Larry Norman Songs For Kids!

The Illegal Noise Series Returns! This bootleg of studio recordings Larry made in the mid-'70s has been circulating among collectors for three and a half decades now. It contains a collection of songs from disparate projects. one of which eventually culminated in Larry's album Something New Under The Son, while the rest were put on the perpetual back burner. All of the tracks here are different than the mixes and versions which eventually saw the light of day. Now, after all these years, we're making this bootleg an official release. The original contained a few dropouts and abrupt endings which we've cleaned up and corrected for a better listening experience. Even if you already have Something New or some of the other tracks we know you'll find this bootleg very interesting.

LARRY's NOTES AND TRACK LISTING:

1976 was a busy year. I had produced Randy's Welcome To Paradise and several other albums which were quite different from each other, like Tom Howard's View From The Bridge, and had started recording Le Garage Du Monde songs. I had also started an album of black music containing songs like "Swing Low Sweet Chariot", "Oh Death Where Is Thy Sting", and "If I Got My Ticket".

At the same time I had started to record an American anthology for the Bicentennial. In 1976 we were a rather un-proud nation, disgraced by our failure in Vietnam and Nixon's prevarications. I recorded "This Land Is Your Land" and "They Laid Jesus Christ In His Grave" with a guitar I borrowed that was Woody Guthrie's; found broken in a field with a bird nest inside. I included a song of my own called "When The Moon Shines On The Moonshine" along with other songs like "Turn Turn Turn" and "Eve Of Destruction".

Neither the album of black music nor white music was approved of by Word Records for release on Solid Rock and I finally resolved to abandon both albums. A rough mix of songs without reverb was handed out on cassette in 1976 to a small group of industry persons, with other alternate mixes of unreleased songs. Some of those songs later ended up on Something New Under The Son. Some of the Bicentennial music was gathered together with other unreleased songs and somehow tape copies of it ended up in the bootleg archives of several collectors. How I don't know, but I have to admire their collecting skills. At least it helps put to rest some of the rumors started by others that such unreleased albums were non-existent...

STRANDED IN BABYLON

Factory Pressing. Produced and performed by Larry and his brother Charly, Stranded in Babylon was recorded in a small town in Norway over several months in 1991. Although never officially released in America through the stores because of Larry's heart attack in 1992, this album WAS released in Europe and was named "ALBUM OF THE YEAR" by critics and Christian rock journals. For those who thought Larry had lost his gift for music, this album was quite a surprise. Stranded In Babylon has been widely regarded as one of Larry's stronger releases. Cross Rhythms Magazine said the album is "a return to the form he showed to full effect on those classics like Only Visiting This Planet and So Long Ago The Garden back in the mid seventies."

Factory Pressing. Originally misunderstood by many and censored by Word Records while at the same time being praised as an instant classic, Something New Under The Son has stood the test of time and inspired countless listeners with it's raw bluesy grooves and intricate songs. It's the same record that stunned the critics upon its release, but is now remastered and equalized, digitally corrected, and polished to make it as shiny as possible. The album came on the heels of Larry's trilogy of albums and is one of his strongest releases ever.

On August 9th, 2001 Larry performed a remarkable concert in Liverpool, England. The Cavern Club was the venue the Beatles played at before they became famous, and Larry couldn't help but be inspired by playing at a club that had been legendary among music fans for nearly 40 years. In attendance that night was Dougie Adam, who said "I love the Cavern Club gig because it shows Larry at his bravest and gutsiest operating in the midst of adversity and still making us smile and making us think and almost certainly changing a life or two as he did so. This was one of Larry's last concerts before he survived an emergency quadruple bypass operation in November 2001. By the time Larry next performed in public it was clear he was never able to sing or perform quite the same way again."

Most "Live in Concert" CDs have been carefully edited and had mistakes removed, etc. But on Larry Norman - Live at the Cavern Club we've taken a different approach. We've decided to release the recording intact as an historical document of an exceptional evening. Apart from having to remove a couple of songs so the concert could fit on two CDs, from start to finish we've edited nothing out, not even the intro music or the promoter's stage patter. We recommend you turn on your stereo, turn down the lights, and pretend that you are there in the dank, dark cellar known as the Cavern Club, watching Larry having a good time while putting on a great concert.

Description from Cross Rhythms Magazine:
In 1974, frustrated by the music industry's intention to dilute the impact of Jesus rock through the many religious songs that mainstream artists chose to record and the fallacious rumours that celebrities like Clapton had been saved, Larry Norman wrote various hard hitting features that magazines and papers wouldn't print. As a second line of attack he decamped to his home with a pile of recording equipment and a few friends to record a series of tongue in cheek cover version. Randy Stonehill introduces the songs in the style of an over-the-top egotistical West Coast DJ, The Surf Duke, and frankly this has some hysterically funny moments! Their acoustic version of Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit In The Sky" is absolutely hilarious! Larry's imitation of Mick Jagger on the Stones' "Shine A Light" is outrageous and the segue of "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Let It Be" and "My Sweet Lord" is suitably respectful, until we get to the disco break in the latter song and Larry again adopting Mick Jagger mode starts singing, "I'm So Bored". Call me iconoclastic but these songs deserve to be ripped apart! After the Clapton rumours of conversion which surface every five years or so, "Presence Of The Lord" is given a straight rendition although it's worth bearing in mind Larry reports that Clapton wrote it to express escaping from the police who wanted to bust him for drugs! This CD release closes with two bonus tracks which did not appear on the original vinyl release. This time they're introduced by Larry's Big Bomber DJ alter-ego on Radio K.R.A.P. and include another great Mick Jagger impersonation on "I Am Waiting". Mischievous yet making an important contribution cataloguing counterfeit "Christian" culture. Another album for Larry completists!

MARK HEARD - APPALACHIAN MELODY

Factory Pressing. 1979's Appalachian Melody was a masterpiece by a man that many called a genius. Although the album is extremely personal and sensitive in songs like "Sidewalk Soliloquy" and "Castaway", Mark's sense of humor can't help raising its head in tracks like "Happy Cornbread Anniversary" and "The Saints". His tragic death from a heart attack at age 40 put an end to a remarkable and brief career that saw the release of 16 albums, all of them head and shoulders above most Christian albums...

His tragic death from a heart attack at age 40 put an end to a remarkable and brief career that saw the release of 16 albums, all of them head and shoulders above most Christian albums. Appalachian Melody is still the favorite of many, because it's the album that brought him to the attention of the record buying public. It's our favorite too, and we highly recommend it. Larry had this to say about Mark: "Mark Heard was my dear friend. We were always loyal to each other, which is what you need when things start falling down around you. We continued to work together in the studio almost up to the time of his death. He was perhaps the gentlest and kindest of any musician I have ever known. He never said anything negative about anyone, at least not to me".

This DVD-R is the visual counterpart to the acclaimed Live at Flevo CD that Solid Rock released years ago. We finally got a taped copy of the original Dutch television broadcast of the concert and are offering it here for the first time. It's pretty amazing. Larry is in his prime, the backup band featuring Q-Stone and Charly is tight and fierce, and the audience of thousands is in a frenzy. It's probably the best L.N. band concert footage ever caught on film. Having been transferred from two decade old tape it's not what you'd call hi-def video. It's rough, raw, and very rock and roll. Everything you'd expect from a Larry Norman band concert. You've heard the CD. Now you can see the concert. Don't miss it!

THE ELSINORE REHEARSALS - A film by Derek Robertson

DVD-R - In preparation for the Elsinore concert, Larry and his friends and family members came together to work on material and go over songs to be included in the set list. Shot on video and expertly edited together by SRA member Derek Robertson, this film is a behind the scenes look at what it's like to be in a band rehearsing for an important appearance. Music, jokes, boredom, and laughter are interspersed with discussions on how to start and end songs, who will perform the instrumental solos, and all the other considerations that occur when a group of musicians are stuck in a small room for hours and hours. This is Larry as he was offstage and in his element. This is the Larry that we love and miss. And this is the video that we at Solid Rock find ourselves watching whenever we want to make smaller the distance between Salem and where Larry lives now, if only for a little while and if only in our hearts and minds...
