In 1970 Larry played a concert at The Way Inn, a Christian coffeehouse in Los Angeles. Someone in the audience set up a reel-to-reel tape recorder and captured the performance, just days before Larry's album Upon This Rock hit the streets and changed Christian music forever. This recently discovered artifact astounded even us! It's the earliest live recording of Larry we know of, and the sound quality is superb considering the time and place.
There is a couple of seconds at the beginning where phone interference occurred during the transfer to digital, and the tape ended midway through track 19, but otherwise it's remarkably intact for a recording that's nearly a half-century old. The set list is unique, the spoken interludes are fascinating, and the entire performance is a peek back in time to when a 23 year old Larry Norman was about to have a lasting impact upon the world of music and ministry. Great stuff!
